This handsome guy is Journey.

He is a neutered, lower content shepherd/mal wolfdog, about 6-7 years old. Journey loves the ladies, any ladies, but is very dominant over other males and can't be housed with any. With people, he picks and chooses; usually he will warm up fairly quickly, especially with men...but if he decides he's afraid of you, good luck changing his mind. At one point he was almost euthanised, because he'd been so scared and unhappy for so long. Then, he made a human friend...and started slowly coming out of his shell. Once he was given a large yard with a girlfriend, his quality of life got even better--and now he shows great promise of being a really neat companion for the right person. His whole attitude has changed, and he approaches new people now on a regular basis. He does seem to prefer men over women.

Checking out a new visitor...

Even when cornered, brushed, handled, medicated, or forcibly leash-walked (he still has some leash issues, especially around gates and doorways) Journey has NEVER shown the slightest bit of aggression towards humans. Once he's been caught up, he just freezes and hopes you don't hurt him. You need to be strong to walk him, though...he will walk at perfect heel, having a good time, then get spooked by something and jolt you *really hard*. He really does seem to enjoy getting out for his walks, though (he will cry if other dogs get walked and not him) and he likes it even more if you jog or run with him! That helps him burn off his nervous energy.

NOT walking.

He's been indoors once or twice and seemed to like it; we can't bring him in much because he's almost certainly not safe with cats, and we have plenty. However, if someone he "chooses" has the luxury of making him an indoor/outdoor dog, he would probably make real progress for them, much more quickly than he would out in a pen.

In the house for a visit...and pretty relaxed about it!

Journey really loves the water, and wants his new home to have a pool (large stock tank, or at least a big bucket) like he has here. He is always in his pool, even when the weather gets cold.
He's not much of an escape artist, other than bolting through doorways as hard as he can on the leash...so, he requires a firm grip (!) and a 6 foot fence with minor dig proofing.

Could you be Journey's person? Come meet him, offer him a treat, and see what he says! He is currently living in north-central NC. Contact solowolf_93@yahoo.com for available visiting times and directions. :)

Here is a video of Journey finally making a human friend:

...and here is another one, where he's excited to see Jupiter for a playdate. (You can tell that he was still feeling pretty nervous around me, though!)
