Melly and Bear's daddy was an incredibly friendly ginger male named Buckley. Here is a video from his original owner:

Buckley was born 11/11/09 (out of Snip x Sassafras)
Kooyong was born 11/04/09 (out of Stirling & Wilka)
Here is Buckley's pedigree and here is his mate Kooyong's.

They tried twice for a family. Kooyong had her 1st litter on 4/2/2011, but they were all stillborn. She had her 2nd litter on 1/17/2012 -- 8 pups, in all 3 colours...including Melbourne and Bear.





Sweet Buckley died on Feb 1, 2013...his own sons had injured him in a fight, sadly so severely that he had to be euthanised. The dingoes' original owner had also fallen upon hard times, and could no longer provide for them all...so I was given his mate and 5 of his grown children on March 23.

These four are now serving as ambassadors at Wild Spirit Wolf Sanctuary in Ramah, NM.

Melbourne came to us *very* pregnant, and dropped pups soon afterwards!
Her first litter was born on 4/2/13. There were six pups, in all 3 colours. (She "broke" the first one immediately :-( which resulted in the massive project of bottle feeding.)



Sadly, the white puppy was born very tiny and weak...probably premature.


She was less than half the size of the others. Little "Pinky" responded to affection from the very first day, pressing her tiny head against your hand. She struggled to live, and we began to be hopeful...but she refused to eat one morning, and then was gone within the hour. She was only 18 days old.

The ginger puppy and one black female became suddenly ill when they were 8 weeks old. (I'm sorry, Epic...we did not know--Dingoes, unlike normal dogs, can contract--and die from--toxoplasmosis!) They had apparently gotten into cat poo in the play yard. After several visits to 3 different vets, one finally identified the cause of the illness. It was too late for little Epic



but Valentine survived. She still has some neurological damage from the toxo, and is not as agile and athletic as the others, but she doesn't seem to mind. She stayed with us, and has adopted a New Guinea Singing Dog to be her new "sister".


New Guinea dogs are "the other dingoes"--they diverged when the land bridge between Australia and New Guinea went underwater. They look similar and share some traits, although they are smaller, and the two 'breeds' have distinctly different personalities. More here on Singers...

The only male went to family in South Carolina...



and the last puppy, a black female, went to a private owner in FL--where she is training to be a SAR dog! :-D You can often see Lola at Shy Wolf Sanctuary events.

Melbourne had an accidental second litter on March 9, 2014. It turns out that male dingoes, even those who have never challenged containment before, are perfectly capable of sailing an 8 foot tiger panel if a female comes into a second heat. Live and learn...
We were gifted with 5 black puppies (3F, 2M) and 2 white ones (1M, 1F) out of Melbourne and Bear.

A white female (Dingo Karoo!) and a black female are staying here in Ohio...

River Song and some of the others play rough with daddy Bear, and New Guinea dog Bug. They're getting big and zoomy now! (Sweet 'Roo is chilling with her wolfdog guardian, Ono.)



The white male & a black female went to an *awesome* home in Oklahoma...



My special black boy 'Tuxon' really lucked out...he gets to be a house dingo in California, and have lots of great adventures with his beautiful dingo girlfriend! :-D



One black girlie went to Colorado, to live with a dog trainer and his diverse crew of canids, and to teach lots of people that dingoes aren't the 'bad guys' they're made out to be.
Her yard has perhaps the coolest clubhouse ever, plus she gets to go to work with Daddy and play on the toys there, too.


We have one male pup still available to the right Forever Home, who's being fostered by family in SC...



...and of course Daddy Bear would like to find a perfect fit for him one day, as well. House time, walkies, no cats, and no male dogs--that's his idea of a good home!

Mommy Melbourne went to live at the Conservators Center in Mebane, NC. If you ever get the chance, don't miss it! They have some of the most uncommon felines I've seen, and the facility itself is top notch. You will learn things, and walk away happy for the animals who live there.



The Fort Wayne (Indiana) Children's Zoo has Melly's aunt and uncle. Mattie, born Nov 4, 2009 is Kooyong's brother, and Naya, born Nov 11 2009, is Buckley's sister. :-) Here they are when they were new to the zoo: http://www.zooborns.com/zooborns/2010/03/feisty-dingo-puppies-make-their-debut.html
